This grew out of a conversation with David Abravenel and Peter Kirn about AI music generation. David made an "AI" plugin generate Autechre FM drums. So my answer was ME SMART ME FAKE AUTECHRE THE HUMAN WAY. Took me about 90 minutes. There are mistakes in it since it's a first take recording. But I think it illustrates the fact that once you understand some of the techniques Autechre uses, you can imitate them fairly easily. It doesn't mean it's a great track, it means that Autechre's sound design techniques are not that arcane. What makes Autechre Autechre is what they do with the tools they've chosen. Their intent, their ideas about pacing and progression in electronic music. https://cornwarning.com/chaircrusher/Chaircrusher-SpringFauxtreche.mp3
