Well, I rarely tend to get new music, so I'm completely incapable of listing off my favorite albums released this year. I think the only 2004 release I've got here in my stable is Amy X Neuburg's very very fine "Residue" http://www.isproductions.com/amy/index.html If you've ever tried out any of her previous work, well, IMO this is the best yet. Introspection, wryness, and kicking ass can all be found. It's very thoughtful and authentic, even for math-rock. I'm not sure how to compare her to Jane, except that they both sing beautifully and aren't afraid to experiment. My favorite albums of the year (new to me!) "If you're feeling sinister" ~ Belle & Sebastian "Transatlanticism" ~ Death Cab for Cutie both Carina Round albums "New York" and "Magic and Loss" ~ Lou Reed "Godbluff" ~ Van der Graaf Generator "California" ~ Mr. Bungle "The Specials" ~ The Specials "Dilate" ~ ani difranco So much good music lurking around.
