Jane's "When I Think of Laura Nyro" originally
appeared on a 1997 tribute CD called "Time and Love:
The Music of Laura Nyro." 

In the liner notes, Jane says:

"I Listened to 'Christmas And The Beads of Sweat' when
I was a teenager and I loved her sense of timing. And
a certain sound she made on her high notes. And her
high spirits. I was thrilled to be asked to do one of
her songs, but try as I might, couldn't find quite the
right one for me - singers being a funny breed. So, I
gave up. Then, the hooks from ALL her songs started to
get louder and louder, creating their own song. Okay,
says I. I can do THAT. I'd LOVE to do that."

Other artists on this CD include Phoebe Snow, Jill
Sobule, Suzanne Vega, Lisa Germano, The Roches, Sweet
Honey in the Rock, Patty Larkin, Jonatha Brooke, and
Holly Cole. My favorite song on the disk is Lisa
Germano's hauntingly beautiful cover of "Eli's
Coming."

I see that the CD is available used on Amazon.com for
$3.50 and up. Quite worth the price!!
