Tracy of the orange-clouds just said: > it was thru kate bush that i was able to find jane. And how did that path work, Tres Sea? And, to all, how did you find Jane? My path: About 6 years ago I was at a party where our hostess had an out-of-the-ordinary CD collection. Not the standard issue. So I asked her to recommend something that was especially "different" and "ambitious." Perhaps also "eclectic." These are the terms that I tend to use when I'm seeking out new music. Sometimes I add the qualifier "-- but not ugly!" Since a good chunk of music which is different & ambitious is also aggressive, ugly, choppy, assaultive, & hermetic. And I no like that merde. So, she directed me to Jane's "Maria." Which I was intrigued by. But I didn't buy it promptly. Then, maybe 2 years later I looked Jane up in the "All Music Guide to Rock" (a major resource, which I recommend, along with their massive guides to Jazz, Blues and Soul), and picked out "The Walking" among the other albums reviewed, as "her most accomplished work to date, but bound to lose the casual listener quickly..." etc. So I pulled out my wallet... and was amazed and delighted. Then I went on to get 5 other albums, including Maria. But the Walking remains my fave, by far. So I wrote a gushy-fan email to Jane, she honored me with a reply-- and I've been a happy man ever since... I just brush off the slings & arrows of adversity! --ciao y'all, Bruce
