Hello all - long time no chat! Remember the heyday of "siblings" when
the emails were non-stop . . . well, we have lives now, apparently!

Was very fortunate to go to hear Issa/Jane give a speech last night at
UBC Robson Square, Vancouver. She's in town before her 4-day workshop at
Hollyhock off in the gulf islands between the mainland and Vancouver
Island . . . . .

Her topic was "Cracking the Egg: A Look From the Inside" - what was
supposed to be a snippet of her upcoming workshop . . . but after coming
in with her "motorbike" helmet and leather jacket, reading a bit from
some meditations on life & science, she opened up and began to talk
about the recent changes in her life

i.e.
closing Sheeba
changing her name
putting away "Jane Siberry" like an old dress
selling her home, all of her possessions, instruments - save her one
traveling guitar and 20 CDs (including a lot of Miles Davis and some Van
Morrisson)
the freedom of decomodifying
feeling like she's died and been re-birthed
her present relationship with friends and family (mom was in the
audience, and as supportive as always)
recently falling in love and letting go of him
creating new art and deciding what to do with it . . . .

For those of you who have been checking out Issa/Jane's website, you'll
know that she has been recording of late. Whether that will turn into an
"official" release or not, she's not sure. It is unlikely at this point,
she says, that she'll ever release a conventional CD again - but isn't
sure if releasing her music on-line is something she wants to continue
with indefinitely either. Perhaps just life - or perhaps just a song
here and there, a couple minutes long or a couple days long.

Black/red hair
New suit
Nice shoes

She asked the audience for their questions, and seemed quite willing to
answer whatever they came up with . . . before ending the evening with
one new song on piano.

Were any of you there?
