have a 'peacenik' friend at the university that I work at that also
purchased the cd, and thinks it wondrous. He's much (make that MUCH)
younger than I, so much so that he was pretty much unaware of the
Rushdie thing, so his review was rather refreshing as well. Between the
two of you, I'm convinced that I need to put the crap away and just
listen to the cd myself.

Well, I get the impression he's for peace also because it has been widely
circulated that since 9/11 he has tried to work for that publicly, as I mentioned
days ago. I hope he keeps with that effort because he's in a position to help
the world in a way that few people are, both to increase understanding of
Islamic culture by the West and of western culture by Muslims. Possibly only a
peaceful Muslim fundamentalist like him could accomplish that, although a truly
peaceful fundamentalist Christian (such as the Catholic activists for peace
and civil rights in the 1960s) or Israeli could help too.
But the album is not about war or current events at all, by the way, as far
as I noticed on the first listen. I only brought up his beliefs because they
came up in our prior conversation and I had looked at his website.
