I don't begrudge Jane's desire to change her name to anything she wants any time, but if the idea for Issa as a name came from the Islamic name for Jesus (Isa or Issa) or from the Issa/Jesus whose travels in India 19th century journalist Nicolas Notovitch purported to have found described at length in a document in an Indian lamasery, I would have considered that a bizarre choice, especially given it accompanied the timing of her decision to abandon all possessions. The decision to get rid of possessions is something I think is highly commendable and difficult to do. But if one were naming oneself Issa to assume the identify of or to use as a stage name the name of the ancient prophet who told people to abandon their possessions, that would probably not be my idea of good taste. (It is her life, not mine, however, so my reaction would be irrelevant.) Fortunately, Issa has provided on her website an article in which she explained the name was chosen by her apparently as a feminine version of the name Isaiah, and she claimed she did not know of the connection to Jesus at the time she chose it: http://www.issalight.com/press/press-1006-globemail.html I did notice a week ago that the name was associated with Jesus because of a program on a history channel entitled "Jesus in India". Some youtube items are up about Jesus in Kashmir and BBC snippets. Wikipedia, as mentioned by an earlier person posting in this topic, lists Jesus in the top two entries for the several examples of Issa's to choose from to read about. The Issa in the oriental calendar quote is likely the Japanese Haiku fellow though.
