Re: SoJ/I, Week One: "Jane Siberry"

i don't know if what i'm copying in this email will come thru- but it was
helpful to me to remember the songs....
 
i bought this album with the "whole shebang" shortly after i got into jane -
wich was after the bound by the beauty album. i was very impressed with it as
her first album, and especially love "this girl i know" and i think of it all
the time. i also always find myself singing "the sky so blue" when i'm driving
in the car, or when the sky is especially blue or my heart feels really big
and find it hard to pass thru doorways.  i don't play it much, unless i need
to hear one of these two songs. i don't recall the other songs by the titles,
so they must not have made a lasting impression on me or nothing reminds me of
it in my daily life.  however,  the strange well, above the treeline and in
the blue light are ringing faint bells for me. --tracy

jane's "original 1980 recording", with nine tracks.

i bought it a while after i was already "into" jane. the songs are
deceptively simple - "marco polo" seems light years away from more
complex jane compositions, but on the other hand some of the songs have a
simple
yet deep beauty - "above the treeline", for example. (given the
current state of the world, the line "send some good things down on this
earth tonight" seems even more relevant and heartfelt now then when i first
heard it.)

i wouldn't put this album anywhere near my favorites of jane's. yet it
still seems like a vital and important milestone, with some of its passions
about nature resurfacing in "bound by the beauty" and some of its
quirkiness soon revisited in "no borders here".

i've never explicitly thought about juxtaposing these songs with jane's
later "teenager"...an endeavor for another day, perhaps.
