The only problem I have with this event is that it appears to be part of a tradition. Traditions should go boom like the old piano. The only waste that I can see is that it isn't put into a larger art context - video and/or audio supported as well. My mind fills with ideas of live and/or studio audio processing. Annea Lockwood has documented a beautiful sounding piano burning. As for the comments about music school funding: shouldn't these people be directing their angst elsewhere? If someone had given them an old broken-down car, would they really think that was better than having no car at all?
