Nobody's mentioned Kathan Brown's book on Cage's "Visual Art: To Sober and Quiet the Mind," which I found very illuminating. Lots of color illustrations, and still in print apparently, more info at http://crownpointpress.stores.yahoo.net/jocaviartoso.html.

Since you asked specifically about Gann's book, it's everything you ever wanted to know about 4'33" told in a reasonably entertaining style. I like Gann's writing, but the book is a summary of existing material in a series intended for a wide audience.
