I’m a bit surprised that there was this kind of collaboration between Cage and Feldman during this time
because there was a serious rift between them that began in early ’54 over Earle Brown’s entrance into their
“New York School” activities and didn’t subside (a bit) until late ’63.

As for prepared piano during this time, Cage, while arranging the Donaueschingen concerts of Oct. ’54,
referred to his “new music for 2 prepared pianos played by Tudor and myself (first performance)…”
This turns out to be a combination of “31' 57.9864" for a Pianist” and “34' 46.776" for a Pianist”
which was presented as “12' 55.6078" for Two Prepared Pianos” (which you can hear on CD #3
of the "75 Jahre Donaueschinger Musiktage: 1921-1996" 12 disc set).
