Just for historical purposes...I launched the Axiom website around 1994 
with the full support of Bill Laswell, Bill Murphy, Tracy McKnight and 
shortly thereafter, John Brown.  While Bill was not necessarily involved 
in "self-promotion," he was incredibly supportive of the website and I 
maintained it continuously until around 2000.  It had a decent 
audience.  It was also one of the first artist-specific sites on the 
web.  I also built prototype websites for Buckethead and Bernie Worrell, 
but it was probably too early for people to get that the web was going 
to take over.

Bill contracted with a marketing firm in 2000 and they told me they were 
taking over the marketing and the rights to the Axiom name on the web.  
I was fine with that because they had more people and money than I did, 
but they never did anything with it, from what I can tell.  My personal 
take on it, and I have never asked Bill, Bill or John about this, is 
that they were good at selling themselves.  But Bill did contract with 
them to do marketing for him, so he was definitely interested in some 
promotion, it just seems to me that they weren't doing anything.  I 
could be all wrong, this was strictly an observation from 3000 miles 
away.  I've stayed in touch with Bill Murphy and John Brown, but my 
photography, especially my live music photography, has been my primary 
activity for a number of years and I have not done anything directly 
with Bill Laswell since 2000.  (BTW, I am launching a music merch 
business, but that's another story.)

The music business has changed a lot in the last fifteen years and it's 
not clear there is any good path for an independent producer.  The money 
isn't in the places it used to be and people consume differently.  
Blaming the consumer for this, as the post that seems to have derailed 
the discussion, is ridiculous.
