Simple Minds' 5th record "New Gold Dream" and 6th record "Sparkle In The Rain" are GREAT records that I re-listen to regularly. Interestingly, New Gold Dream has a track called "Hunter and the Hunted" which features a rather lengthy solo by Herbie Hancock. So my query would be whether it was this Hancock connection that let to the overture to Bill to produce their 6th record. If so, I'm kind of glad Laz turned it down because Sparkle In The Rain turned out to be a formative Steve Lillywhite production. On #7 Simple Minds hired Jimmy Iovine to produce and guess it was musically all over for them after that. I haven't heard much of Simple Minds' first four records, but based on this Wikipedia entry, that might have been another time when Laswell was recommended - perhaps Bill asked Herbie to scout them out leading to the studio performance on #5? Any info anyone has on this missed entanglement would be interesting to me. Thanks.

What would Simple Minds produced by Bill Laswell have sounded like? Could
he have made them good? :)
