Re: Bladerunner concert review

Both Chicago sets were incredible, and quite different. The first was a bit=
 funkier and featured more Las ambient bass interludes. The second started =
out with a bit of brutal thrashing, and was marked overall by more alternat=
ing dubby and free-jazzy bits. I think that's a fair assessment of the diff=
erences, anyway. The sound was great too, right down to the tuning of Lomba=
rdo's toms.=20

It was especially nice to hear Las's bass through a good system, as aside f=
rom the Knitting Factory MoD gig in 2006 (?) I'd most recently only seen hi=
m at the Stone.=20

       That seems like a pretty
 fair assessment that could be applied to Sunday's NYC
 show. BRUTAL. and great. Lombardo rivals bill in volume, and
 Bill had FOUR cabinets. I don't know if anyone saw or
 heard the shows from '99 and 2000....Dave was a beast at
 those shows, but tentative IMO in some ways. His playing has
 progressed unbelievably now. Great color and great interplay
 with Zorn and Bill.

 Everyone was tapped, but happy after
 the show, so hopefully this yields more in the future. I
 have to say, I got to talk to Lombardo after the show too
 and he is one of the nicest cats I've ever met. There
 were fans waiting for him outside the dressing room - he
 went out and took the time to talk to every one of them and
 take pictures. Very humble and appreciative.
