Thank you Featherstone for directing my boyfriend and me to Owain! It was
hard to find that man for a while. As we were heading toward the spot where
we knew he was playing, I could hear him before I saw him. I'll never forget
the joyful anticipation of that moment. He was singing "Tarantella" from Tales
From the Vinyard, which happens to be one of the first songs I had thought of
requesting. I joined a couple of ladies that were listening to him on a bench a
few feet away. We were invited to join in for all of the "La la's!" I had wonderful
fun the whole time, but hopefully I wasn't too pesky with all my requests.
Owain's voice was even more soothing and charming in person. He was
extremely polite and soft-spoken, with a cute Spanish "accent." As I had
hoped, he was wearing one of his minstrel costumes with the tights, boots,
"puffy shorts," and a ruffly shirt. He also wore the straw hat he wore in the
album photo for his latest Latino album.
I thought I wouldn't get to see him the next day due to conflicting plans, but I
did. It was a cold, rainy day. My boyfriend felt miserable in the rain, so he left
me to enjoy myself alone. I didn't mind, except that again I had trouble finding
Owain. For a while he wasn't there; someone said he had gone away
temporarily because of the rain. I left for Axel's show, and when I came back
Owain was at his spot, but he was just leaving to play at the Vow Renewal (or
Vowel Renewal, as he called it!). He was either quipping or maybe had done
too much sipping (LOL!).
Finally I got to see him later that afternoon. Again it was great fun, possibly
even more fun. There were more people listening and an atmosphere of
merriment. I was pretty tipsy by the time he finished playing! I'm normally
really shy, but I was a forward, effusive fan at that moment. Ugg, I hope I
wasn't too much of a dork. Self-analysis aside, I had a magical time wafting on
his voice and getting to know a little of his personality. I loved talking to his
other fans, as well. What a great weekend!
