Here's an interesting article from 2013 about the M-DISC. More burners are available now and more manufacturers of the disc.

It appears Taiyo Yuden/JVC will stop making recordable media at the end of the year, so stock up.

Falcon or Mitsui both appear to make viable replacements though. Their regular line CDR's have a lifespan of 50 years at around .25 per disc while their archival line has a 300 year lifespan for around 1.80 a disc.

I use inkjet printable discs and Falcon has a disc that will work with inkjet or thermal printers. I plan to give it a try.
