That's interesting about the CD lifespan as its something I've often wondered about. My own personal belief is that if you look after them - don't touch the playing surface, keep them scratch-free and return them to their cases after playing - they may well last considerably longer than that. However, I suppose the protective plastic coating on the surface of the discs may become opaque to the laser beam over time but that's only a guess. I do have a TD bootleg that has developed holes through the aluminium coating and label and consequently it doesn't play properly now.

  And that is why it is called estimation...and I am buying into that... Unless you can prove otherwise, this is the best numbers they could come up with...for now...

  As a matter of fact, I read in the old days that the normal pressed CD lifetime was 25 years.  Some CDs in my collection are older than that and playing just fine.

  Anyone on the thread that can validate the pressed CD longevity?
