Ok, this is generating into a deep black/white argument w/o all necessary and required shades of grey... Science is built from observations, knowledge and it is an ongoing iterative process... What we thought was the truth 200 years ago may be wrong as of today or has been refined with time. Today more cancers are effectively cured compared to 20 years back. Science is not a marketing tool, it is relying on facts. A baseline knowledge for future generations. We are not at this point yet where we can predict and stop natural catstrophe... The animal worls seems a bit ahead of us in that domain.... That said, not all CDRs are built with the same quality standards hence having different mtbf (minimum time before failure). Consider how the CDR are handled and you can easily add on or remove 5 to 10 years of lifetime. With all hints and good advices given on this thread one can make up his mind on the best way to preserve his musicl collection.
