I have only just started buying TD again after some years absence so I'm not familiar with the other Schnauss piece you've mentioned. However, like you, I do really like Mirage of Reality.

  Listen to the 2nd half of Mirage of Reality, then listen to Ulrich's "Monday Morning Paracematol" and I think you will notice a strong similarity.  I think Mirage must essentially be an Ulrich composition.  Having said that, it's my favorite track on the disk.
