OT: Computer / External hard drive issues

Sorry for the off topic guys!! Hello All, As I've said many times before, you guys are the smartest geeks and nerds I know. I have an external hard drive that, when I plug it into my computer, the light on the hard drive comes on, but my computer will not see this hard drive. This same hard drive I can plug into the back of my flat screen TV and watch the movies and shows stored on it. But the TV will so longer "see" the hard drive. I am hoping and praying that this is a simple "settings" issue somehow. If the hard drive was bad, would the "power light" on the hard drive still come on?!?! ANY help someone can give me would be greatly appreciated!!
