Well, as nobody on here has the full answers, I have asked Tag/Traum about the issue (actually, twice, as one is about the Blu-Ray and the other is about the two different DVD editions).
I really, REALLY want this documentary to be made, but the Kickstarter isn't doing so well at the moment. Due to this fact, I did not mince my words in my questions, nor will I do so here for the group. Others can ask about why they need to raise the funds; my questions were aimed at finding out why they want to raise funds just to send us not only one, but two different versions of the video, neither of which are the full production. I'd rather the support funds just go directly to the development of the project than to pay for them to ship me an incomplete edition.
DVD or Blu-Ray, I don't care. Surely Blu-Ray would be better, but it's the content I want, and I want the whole thing, not fragments. As I see it, there is set to be:
1) A shortened DVD
2) A shortened DVD but with special bonus features not included anywhere else
3) a Blu-Ray which is the full documentary, but WITHOUT the aforementioned special features, and which might never actually be released, even if they do get all the funds necessary to make the damned thing.
I also asked, should the project fail, if it could possibly be resubmitted but with more clear expectations/release plans and without giving the impression of possibly short-changing their backers.
From what I've read, people have real reservations about supporting this project ... but damn it, we really need it. We need to preserve the TD legacy somehow, and I don't think Edgar's book is quite going to cut it in that regard.
