A limited edition is a contract between the seller and the collector.
Yes, it is silly. I would prefer that an item be available always.
But I have bought limited editions.
Manuel Gottsching put out a limited edition Ash Ra Tempel collection and has not reissued it, although he did put out a compilation of some of the material. It's unfair to fans who discover the band after the limited edition is sold out, but I do respect him for sticking to the limited edition. Of course, I did buy the limited edition, so I am a bit biased.
