yes, back up your backups.

You're quite safe with:

1. backup onto usb hard drives (no ssd), three or four sets,

2. store each set at a different locations

3. compare the files (bit-wise) every one or two years

4. replace hard drives when errors occur while comparing (might be after 5-8 years) - with 3 or 4 sets you can decide which file version is good

I think time and effort depends on how much you value your (non-physical) collection and how likely it is to be able to replace defective items.

3 factors are determining the longevity of the CDR:

1.Quality of the media itself. There was some crappy stuff out there. Choosing and investing in a good brandname will pay down the road.

2.Burn-in speed, ideally 2x or 4x.

3.Storage. Avoid extreme conditions.

As suggested, backup is always a safe bet.
