Hello,
Our application uses beepcore-c version 0.1 and was encountering
problems on certain platforms (machine 2 below). Hence we ran the
sample programs (echoserv & bing) and found some issues. We didn't
catch these before as we were testing on machines 3, 4 and 5.
Version 1 test programs
>> echoserv localhost 10234
>> bing -c 1 localhost 10234
Version 2 test programs
>> beepd -f beepd.cfg
>> beepng -a test -c 1 -f beepng.cfg -p 10289 localhost
All machines have Solaris 8 except for the last
Patch Works
No.CPUs Memory Platform Level 0.1 0.2
1: 1 512 SUNW,UltraSPARC-IIi-cEngine 18 No dodgy
2: 1 256 SUNW,Ultra-5_10 15 No unknown
3: 4 1024 SUNW,Ultra-4 15 Yes Yes
4: 2 1024 SUNW,Ultra-250 16 Yes Yes
5: 1 768 SUNW,UltraAX-i2 (Sol 9) Yes Yes
I see from mailings that version 1 is unstable particularly with
respect to the threading:
http://lists.codefactory.se/pipermail/idxp/2002-February/000053.html
What happens is the echoserv and bing process hang, the output from
a truss of the running processes show both are in a poll()/yield()
loop. This happens on machine 2 above.
Tests with version 2 indicate a slight improvement in stability
but still the test programs (beepd & beepng) hang after a number of
iterations on machine 1 above. When i say 'dodgy' above i mean the
following:
- I start the server
- I run the client program 10 times... it works
- I run the client program 500 times (using -c option)... it works
- I run the client program 500 times... it hangs
- I switch between doing a truss of the server pid and the client
pid and eventually the processes are kicked started into
completing.
- i can continue on...
Has anyone else seen problems with beepcore-c like this? I presume
upgrading to version 2 would be recommended but this is not as stable
as i would like it to be.
Andy
