If I recall correctly, pro_start_callback is called on the initiator of 
the connection, and pro_start_confirmation is called on both sides (on 
the listener when the answer to the start is sent, and on the initiator 
when it's received.) I also believe that pro_start_confirmation imight 
not be called if the request is refused. I.e., the 
pro_start_confirmation tells you it's safe to start sending on the 
channel that's open.

It's looking for the response. Even if it's a negative response.

It's been too long for me, so you might need to look at the code to see 
exactly what's going on there.
