Problems with RR-SASL library

When I try to test the RR-SASL library after compiling, I get a host of 
errors.  I think this is a result of the target host for auth requests 
being 'foo.codefactory.se'.  I've been looking for information to help 
me understand SASL, but it just isn't happening.

Could anyone shed a little light on my situation?  Is there another 
piece of software I need to run to handle these auth requests?  Do I 
have to write something that uses the Cyrus SASL library  to connect to 
my local auth methods?  It's probably apparent, but I really don't know 
where to go from here.
