I have been a reg in alt.free.newsservers for a long time (use a score
file and filter as there are a lot of Xposting fools there now, good
filters have been posted in the past), so you get to know what the good
servers (easynews.nl have just stopped after >6 months of unlimited
testing) are and some will even let you know when they are open or load
testing, the other way is the few web sites that index them, its worth
checking them. ReadFreeNews has a web site/server that is open most of the
time just do what their web page says, a free (costs a few dollars for
admin) Teranews account is always worth soomething as they often let you
go way over the free limit, BigGulp is down for a while as mike is working
with the hardware, Yotta news are good for 15 KB/sec 24/7 just set re-trys
@ > 60 sec. I cant remember how to get a free accound with Freenet.de but
you can trick their free server to give you access to their backend spool
and ask by Msg-ID.... and it goes on and on, all of this info has been
posted in alt.free.newsservers at one time or another.

The other is with newsreader path searching tools none of which I can
remember the name of, and I cant for some reason get to my archive file
server (will have to get up and check) but NewsPro used to have one built
in that was very good, I dont know if News Explorer (the new version) has
it as well.

The main thing to remember is that lots of small bits can soon add up when
you use BNRx, I often hear ppl say 'its crap as lots of parts are
missing', I am happy to have a hand full of slow servers and a few more
with stuff missing, I dont have an Isp server any more, but that is worth
putting into the mix as well.
