I'd also ask, does anything else hang, or is it just BNR?

If so, you have a more basic problem.
If not, here's what I'd try:
  Get a small .nzb file (so you can rule out slow importing)
  Start BNR.
  Pause the queue.
  Import the .nzb file. (Does it hang now?)
  Unpause the queue. (Does it hang now?)
  Does BNR show any active connections? 

(This is assuming here you're saving the .nzb file to a
local disk, and not loading it across the network.)

At the same time, you could try pinging your gateway, so
you could monitor the wireless connection.
("ping -t <your gateway>" on Windows.)

Hopefully that'll help narrow down where the problem lies.
