no overlap issue if you do it right, you must clean out the database when its full on bnr2.

I simply "server->export NewsRC" for each server I care about, delete all the .bnr files, none are needed anymore, I delete the whole tree and keeep only the BNR2.ini and any other .ini files such as wantfile or killfile and stop and restart bnr2,  at this point all you keep are the program files and nothing else, I can move my install to a new machine without any issues in seconds with a simple tar.gz file, each time i do this cleaning I am in effect starting with a band new fresh install.

In fact since I keep my download directory in a dedicted disk partition for this purpose, I will oftten reformat that partition to clean up any disk fragmentation that occurs over time. When i restart its really fast as all the cruft has been cleaned away, my amount of news groups cause the database to fill up within 1 week, so this is a usual weekend maintenance process and takes only 15 minutes including reloading my headers, I only grab as many headers as needed depending on the type and content of the group, never have any isssues 

then you go to server connect which reloaded the news group list, then you refresh all your groups takes about 15 minutes for em and then  "server->import NewsRC" which updates the read markings on all the headers you have already seen. when you finally open a set of groups, it only contains the new headers since last time you exited and save header states

I Must say BNR2 could make some things a little more streamlined, but if used right it has all that anybody may need and works better than anything else I have ever found, I have tried all the news readers I ever heard about on windows and Mac OS/X and nothing comes close.

Only thing I miss once in a while is a simple way to post a short 5 line reply to thank people sometimes. I use Unison on OSX for that purpose. I also use Unison to read threaded text news but BNR is not intended for that purpose.

I should add that I use Debian 5.0 Linux without any issues and love it with BNR

If you're willing to accept the constant data loss, then yes.  However,
this means constantly re-downloading overviews, and manually wandering
