That would be really really great :) It bothers me, that the only app on
my server, which is not UTF-8 compliant is centericq. Otherwise I would
have switched to UTF-8 a long time ago.
Another thing that is a problem: with screen, ssh and centericq, the
available UTF-8 version seems not to work correctly. I've tried Debian's
centericq-utf8.

That's the next thing. The actual Debian version doesn't connect to
amessage.de anymore. Maybe there is already a patch for that, but I
didn't have time to investigate that.

That sounds nice. As well as the "little" GUI improvments. Could you
explain what you've thougth of?

Are you in contact with him? What does he think about that plans? Maybe
he would open centericq's CVS or move it to another location?

OK, something new to learn, but it's always good to learn new things ;)

Let us know when you've finished. As you picked the most patches out of
Debian, are you interessted in directly publishing Debian packages? That
would be really great ;)

OK, now something about myself :)
I would like to help if I can. I am a Java developer, so I think I'm
able to READ the code, but writing could be some problem, as I'm not
very familiar to release allocated memory and use pointers ;)

What I could do would be, writing documentation and testing (mainly
UTF-8 support, Debian-packaging, usage within screen, ...). And maybe I
could help with support.

I would also like to point out another message in this thread. It was
about using lib-gaim as base. This should be considered and thought of
very thoroughly. It has some notable advantages: Very well maintained,
fast and active development of the libraries and so on. Just think about
it.

That was just my two cent ;)
