So basically I updated File.pm and added an additional check.

Ifs cricket still maintained? I see the version info says Cricket
version 1.0.5 (2004-03-28)

I guess I just seems like this type up update would have been made quite
some time ago and avoided quite a bit of frustration.

Should I look to make this change and check it back in?
