I *strongly* recommend running Cricket on a Unix or Unix variant
(IBM's AIX is UNIX, but has issues with rrdtool);  while you could
probably get Cricket on MS-Windows working via Cygwin, it would not,
IMHO, be worth the time and effort.

If you absolutely must run your monitoring system on one of these two
OSes, you might consider buying a Windows-based commercial product
such as SolarWinds Orion.  This product has all the features of
Cricket and then some, and only costs about $9,000 more.

My first Cricket server was built on an old retired Optiplex GX1
desktop with OpenBSD 2.5;  it lasted until the hard drive burned out
and I lost several months of data.  So my recommendation is to buy a
server-grade machine with hardware RAID :)

(P.S. If you have a big Windows 2003 server with spare cycles, you
could run a VMware image of a Unix-like OS as a guest virtual machine.
 So your boss is happy, and your Cricket actually works.)
