random collector hangs

I'm in the process of migrating a cricket instance (1.0.5)from an older 
Linux box (Red Hat EL3) to a VMWare ESX 3 VM running Red Hat EL4.  For 
the most part, everything has gone smoothly cricket is up and running. 
The problem is that once in a while one of the collectors simply hangs.

The intervals can range from hours to days, but when a given collector 
process hangs, it's hung for good until manually killed.  I've seen 
hangs in three of the six collectors that run from cron.  They occur 
most often in one subtree, but never yet at the same target.  Running 
with loglevel=debug revealed nothing unusual.  The log simply stops 
where the process hangs.  Running strace against the hung process always 
gives

	recvfrom(4,

and nothing more.  I haven't had a chance to dig deeper into the problem 
yet. (this week I hope...)  Given the strace output, I'm thinking the 
issue may be down in the SNMP module somewhere, but I won't know for 
sure without more work.

That said, my questions are: Has anyone seen anything similar?  Is 
anyone successfully running on a 64bit Linux VM?
