Aging and Averaging

I'm using Cricket to log usage of a number of tools licenses, mainly using
flexlm. Daily, weekly and monthly graphs appear ok, but the yearly graph
shows a low value. I'm presuming that this is because, as the values move
to the older archive, they are averaged over the 24 hour day, or whatever
time period. This isn't much use to me as I need to see the Max usage over
the time. Where, and how, do I setup the rrdtool parameters to use MAX
instead of AVG? If possible, just for these graphs. Do I need to change
the archives or start the history again? If I need to change the archives,
how do I edit and change them?
