Hello Paolo,

I just started using DA within a week ago. I recall getting a similar
error message, but I forgot what caused it. There were several things
that I was playing around with.

I got an error when I did not connect with the LDAP rootdn account that
is in the slapd.conf file. For Red Hat Linux 8 through 9, the commented
default is "cn=Manager,dc=example,dc=com". Plus, when I did not insert
the password for the LDAP rootdn account.

Please indicate what version of DA you are using. Initially, I started
using DA 1.3.5-fr2 without TLS configured on my LDAP client. That was
the newest version on the http://FreshRPMs.net web site.

I disabled TLS on my LDAP client because I was using the automatically
generated /usr/share/ssl/certs/slapd.pem file from the Red Hat Linux
installation. Therefore, my LDAP authentication did not work.

When I generated the /usr/share/ssl/certs/slapd.pem file with the exact
host name that the LDAP client used, I was able to configure the LDAP
client to use TLS. However, DA 1.3.5-fr2 no longer worked because it
does not support TLS. That was another time that I got an error message
similar to the one you reported.

Another time I got an error message was when the authPassword attribute
was enabled for saving passwords. However, it was not the similar to
the error message you reported. The parameter is in the check box below:
  Settings/Preferences.../Compatibility/Use the authPassword attribute ...

Currently, I am using DA 1.5.1-1 with TLS configured. Everything works
fine. However, I did not need to use rpmbuild to generate the RPM for
my Red Hat Linux 9.0 system.

I provided you with several scenarios and resolutions for my errors. I
hope one of them help.

Regards,
Gabriel Donnell
