odd!  Perhaps I compiled DA on a RH box which already was updated.  I am 
really sick about this dependency hell.  This would also naturally be 
very easy to solve if distro vendors agreed on depending perhaps NOT on 
package names, but on files and particular implementations.  Am I right?
