Support for large directories

Hi,

To support large directories better, what do you think about a nice error
message displayed, if a size limit error happens?

This can help inexperienced users to fix their server configuration, when
the directory grows behind the sizelimit, without them asking or reporting
it as a bug, and whoud be quite easy to implement...
