Groups: member or memberUID

Greetings,
Just upgraded Directory Administrator and noticed that when I create a 
user and set the primary group the following type of entry is put into 
the group.

member uid=bstewart,ou=users,o=waterwerks

but if I add a user in as a secondary member of the group I get both

member uid=bstewart,ou=users,o=waterwerks
memberUid bstewart

Why is this ? We have written an application that depends on the 
memberUid being present. I am not sure if we are dealing with a bug or 
somet sort of other issue with LDAP that I am not aware of.

Help would be appreciated.
