GNOME2/GTK2 support?

Quick question:

What's the state of play for GNOME2 support? Is it planned, or
deliberately postponed for some reason?

If I made some inroads into it, would patches (against CVS) be accepted
to CVS?

Also, should note that there are a whole bunch of autogenerated files in
CVS (e.g. aclocal.m4) that shouldn't be there, and a handful of files
that should be renamed with a '.in' extension and parsed out by
configure.

Regards,
