it's currently that way.  it's actually worse because we require gnome-
libs 1.4 which is absolutely, outrageously, hopelessly out of date.

that's not usable (the gnome hig has a couple good ideas for this
particular item), and will make the gui look awful and unprofessional.
besides, this is kind of extremely hard with gtk1.
