Yes, I did actually look at the answers provided by dig although not closely enough to notice that they are rotating answers. I wasn't able to use dnsq to resolve them (which isn't part of dnscache) either so apparently the packets get discarded by the library. I haven't actually looked at the code so this is just guesswork at this point. dnstrace also fails to lookup the MX records.
