He had a beef or three with make, which seems to have been the
inspiration for redo:

It's quite possible that he didn't provide a clean target because he
never had need of one.  If he had some deep problem with the idea of
'make clean', I'm sure he would have ranted about it somewhere.  If he
did, I haven't found it.

Speaking of rants...I haven't found the djb autoconf/autotool rant,
either.  The only anti-autotool vitriol that I've seen on this list
has been promulgated by the various dedicated fanboys.  Surely he was
aware of autoconf/automake, yet chose not to employ them for some
reason, and created redo instead.  If he's made that reason public, I
haven't come across it and I'd be interested in a reference to it.
