Like it or not. For a software to become popular (and that also means to gain community support) it also needs to be usuable by the normal crowd, just program users. Conventions reign our life. It doesn't mean that you should accept every and any convention but on the other hand it does not make sense to question every convention either. There is not run-time disadvantage by having easy to install packages.
