FWIW I manage a dnscache that is using 1.5GB of RAM.  The current cache
stats on it are such that the oldest entries rotate out after just under
2 days.  I already had to patch it to get it over 1GB of RAM.  I can
certainly imagine a cache on a larger network needing more than 4GB to
keep more than 24 hours worth of queries.

On the other hand, I'm not sure if the CPU could keep up with it.
Running so many queries as to use up a 4GB cache in a short period of
time will tax the CPU pretty heavily.
