The idea of laundering something is that people don't find out the true 
source of whatever is being laundered. 

Intentionally trying to launder blackhat taint indeed makes you a
blackhat, just like laundering drug money involves you drug rackets.

I'm just not sure of your intent and prior knowledge; I don't know if 
you were duped, or knowingly participating.

Software has trustworthiness, so it has character. So patches have
character, too.  If you don't get that, then you aren't inherently
trustworthy. You may not have done anything wrong _yet_, but that would
only be because you haven't had the opportunity. If you don't even see
the lines between right and wrong, you are destined to cross them on the
wrong side sooner or later because you are blind to the distinction.
