Ah. If I'd found *dnsqr* before I'd have had no need to ask the questions,
it's eminently hackable into a simple library call to do what I want.

I missed it because I looked at http://cr.yp.to/djbdns/tools.html
"Command-line tools to look up DNS information" which has a program
to look up all the common RR types except NS, when I should have kept
going and read "Command-line tools to debug DNS configuration"

I might even go so far as saying it's confusing having these on one
page, the "look up" and "debug" are rather subjective and I don't
see the need for distinction in the first place. Matter of taste
I suspect.

But it seems I have my answer(s) and thank you one and all.
