You can request that any other email address be removed from the list by
emailing a variant of that address - something like
[email protected]. The list server will
then send a confirmation email to [email protected] to confirm that
person wants to be removed.

I imagine this is what Peff is talking Russell through doing off-list  
now.

Of course, you - and anyone else with Internet connectivity which  
doesn't
filter port 25 - CAN send email "from" your old domain or any other:
there is no restriction on the address you put in the From field of an
email, barring anti-spam precautions on the recipient's system such as
SPF. I can easily send email to [email protected] which is
"From" [email protected] — what I cannot do is receive email
sent to that address. All that request does is generate a cryptographic
authenticator and send it to that address; it is *receiving* that
authenticator back which actually triggers the operation.
