Critical mass leads to wide-spread adoption and a morphological change in protocols resulting in de-facto standards that can't simply be dismissed by committee or so-called governing bodies. There really is no point in exclaiming that there's a better solution when all that exists is a sandbox. On the other hand, I have no doubt that DNSCurve would completely supplant DNSSEC were it to actually exist as an operational reality.
