Dan placed his software in the Public Domain, http://cr.yp.to/distributors.html so Mark has the perfect right to have a crack at it and balls it up ( not that I'm suggesting he has done such a thing), just as you have the perfect right to not touch his 'fork' ( or any of the other forks out there ), with a barge pole, should you suspect origin and intent is anything but sincere. If it's truly bad stuff it'll get discredited and forgotten, if not it'll maybe expand into something useful, or prompt further development and further forks.
