Well, I manage some servers running DLZ using the BDBHPT driver, on fairly modest hardware (Pentium 4, 1-2GB ram). The "master" db is in postgresql, and we use a small c++ daemon running on each dns node that coordinates with triggers in the postgresql DB to propagate changes from the SQL "master" db to the BDB database stored on each dns node in near-real-time. Database size is approximately 60,000 zones and a total of 425,000 dns records. The dns nodes have currently been up 278 days, and the last reboot was only to upgrade the kernel and core OS. Each node is currently handling, on average, over 2000 queries per minute, and the machines are on average 90% idle. They can obviously handle a lot more. So yes, DLZ is extremely stable, and when used with the BDBHPT driver, *very* efficient.
